It’s April 2023 and I’m itching to get started in the garden. After the winter, the area is looking a bit rough. But it’s not quite time yet. First, I need to let whatever pollinators are hibernating there warm up and wake up.
Additionally, the plants I purchased in February aren’t expected until the first week of May. It’s been unseasonably warm the last few days which has made it hard. But I’ve spent the time researching and making plans. A big shout out to the Chicago Gardeners Club facebook group for all the great advice and resources on how to help ameliorate the nutrient deficient, compacted soil.
I went out yesterday and finally measured the plot to calculate where each plant should go and how much compost/topsoil/etc I’ll need to get. Sadly, my high school geometry did not come back to me but through the help of a teacher friend and google, I was able to figure it out. The corner is 40 square feet, give or take a few for the curved rather than flat edge.
A few folks including friends and members of the above mentioned facebook group have offered to help, so I’m off to schedule and plan that all out. Wish me luck!
