Like Asking the Hair Stylist for “Just a trim”

Last night things got drastic. After diligently watering the elderberry for several days in a row, I sort of gave up. I’d check on the tree, take pictures, see how it was getting progressively more brown, say I was going to come out the next day and work on it and then, ignore it until a few days later.

The mulch did finally arrive Sunday after a delay and I put it out but I hadn’t been out to water it since. In fairness to myself, we did have a soaking rain Saturday night. But just before 9 pm last night I randomly thought that it was time to tackle it.

Out I went with my watering can and pruners. I took some photos in the low light and got to work cutting. Do I know what I’m doing? Not even a little. But anything brown or wilted was snipped.

Timing is everything because the water can ended up being unnecessary. As I was trimming the wind started up and I could see lightning crackling across the sky. As I was walking up my sidewalk, fat drops started to fall.

I trooped out this morning to get better photos of the after for you my fair readers, all one of you. She looks . . . the same? I hope? I have put aside some of the branches I trimmed to see if any can be propagated. I was hoping to tackle that today but I think I gave myself food poisoning. Past Michelle – don’t eat the questionable broccoli.

Maybe this drastic haircut can be the fresh start she so badly needs.
